Travel subsidies

The Writing and Publishing Section is offering travel subsidies to publishers currently participating in the Block Grants or Emerging Publishers Grants so they can meet with their official language counterparts to exchange catalogues and to negotiate or acquire rights to books to add to their list (with assistance from the Book Publishing Support: Translation Grants program).

Travel subsidies assist in covering the cost of travel (return economy train or air fare) and accommodation, to a maximum amount of $500, $1000 or $1500, depending on destination and length of stay.

Here’s what you need to request a travel subsidy.

Send a request to Rose Ouimet (rose.ouimet@canadacouncil.ca) at least three weeks in advance of the planned date of travel with the following information:

  • confirmation of meetings with at least three publishers/editors whose books you may be interested in translating;
  • estimates of return economy train or airfare for the dates of the meetings;
  • length of stay (number of days).

Requests (one per publisher) will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are expended. Payment will be made on receipt of a brief report of the meetings and an invoice detailing the travel costs and length of stay. The payment request must be received by March 19, 2010.
